Ketubot 8: Celebrating Weddings

The 7 Berakhot in full. Plus, a practical account of weddings where sages said 5 or 6, and not 7. What is their disagreement? It would seem about the nature of the creation of humanity. Also, for the 30 days following the wedding, the couple has the status of newlyweds, which has bearing on the groom’s ability to make the wedding blessing – that happiness is his portion. And in some ways, for a year. But when does that joy begin? Betrothal? Wedding preparations? Part of the concern is whether a wedding might be cancelled, despite betrothal.
