Shabbat 18: “Set It and Forget It” – A Daf of Modern Shabbat Issues

We found this daf to be remarkably replete with contemporary issues – or perhaps eternal issues of Shabbat. From what machines we can leave running on Friday afternoon into Shabbat (if any) to the erstwhile “shabbos clock” (aka timer) to mar’it ayin (misleading appearances) to “amira le-akum” –Jewish/non-Jewish interactions with regard to Shabbat…

There’s a lot in there. Plus a machloket between Beit Hillel and Beit Shammai. Of course.
